How to Beat Procrastination on Daily Tasks When Working From Home

Procrastinating on daily tasks when you work from home can be a real problem. But let's look on the bright side and have a little fun with the subject.

I've been working from home for a while now, and I have to admit I've become a master of the art of procrastination. Back when I worked in an office, I was far more focused and productive. Now, with all the temptations of home within arm's reach, it's very easy to drift away from what needs to get done.

For example, say you have an important task that must be finished by the end of the day. Then, suddenly, you remember you forgot to start the washing machine, or there's a cake in the oven that needs checking, or maybe you just feel sleepy and want a quick nap. Before you know it, you've lost half the day doing all sorts of things that have nothing to do with your work.

So let's pause for a moment and think about how we can manage our time better and avoid procrastinating while working from home.

  1. Set clear goals: Start the day with a clear list of the tasks you need to complete. Prioritise them and make sure you have clear, realistic goals for each one.
  2. Plan your time: Assign a specific time slot to each task and try to stick to that schedule. If you get distracted or start procrastinating, get back to your original plan as soon as possible.
  3. Remove temptations: If you know certain activities distract you, avoid them while you're working. For example, turn off notifications on your phone or close entertainment websites on your computer.
  4. Schedule your breaks: Rest and recharging are important, but try not to stray too far from your tasks. Plan regular breaks and stick to activities that give you energy, such as yoga or short walks.
  5. Find your motivation: Think about why you want to complete your tasks and focus on that goal. It might be a reward at the end of the day, or the positive impact you'll have on your own life or the lives of those around you.

Procrastinating on daily tasks can be a challenge when you work from home, but with a little planning and focus, it can be managed successfully. Set your goals, plan your time, remove temptations, schedule your breaks and find your motivation, and you'll see yourself becoming more productive and happier in your work from home.
